The Covington Cougars (8-3, 4-1) got back to their winning ways on Tuesday after picking up a big Pioneer District victory over the Highland Rams (4-7, 1-7) 66-46 at the Cougar Den.
The Cougars were led by Jayden Sammons who had a game-high 17 points.
Sammons was a part of nine players who scored for the Cougars in the win. Along with Sammons scoring in double figures, so were J’yon Smith who scored 11, while Dylan Williams, and Desmond Jordan each added 10 for the Cougars.
The Rams had three players in double figures scoring. Eli Moore led the Rams with a team-high 12 points, while Ethan Moore, and Colton Williams each had 10. Williams finished with a double-double, 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
It was a relatively tight contested game going into the third quarter, but the Cougars backed by the home crowd scored the final 15 points of the period to build a lead that they wouldn’t look back on.
