In their home opener Monday evening, the Alleghany Lady Mountaineers (3-0) cruised to a 47-20 victory over the Buffalo Gap Bison (2-1).

Kendell Keene once again led all scorers with a game-high 20 points for the Lady Mountaineers who picked up their third win of the season.

Keene scored 14 of her 20 points in the second half, while knocking down three three-pointers. Through the first three games this season, Keene is averaging 19 points a game.

Meanwhile, Macyn Cash added 16 points for the Lady Mountaineers. In the first half, Cash scored 13 of her 16 total points which helped give the Lady Mountaineers a 22-7 lead.

In the first quarter, already leading by eight points, Cash dropped in her only made three-pointer which put the team ahead double digits at 11-0 with under three minutes left in the quarter.

The Lady Mountaineers wouldn’t look back following the Cash three-pointer as she would shortly follow it up with an old-fashioned three-point play as she made a layup while being fouled.

The Lady Bison managed just two points in the first quarter which came in the closing seconds.

Down 16-3, the Lady Bison made a little run to close the gap to single digits at 16-7, following a 4-0 scoring run on two made free throws from Ava Cline and a Avery Bradley layup.

The Lady Mountaineers though would close the first half on a 6-0 scoring run with Cash scoring four points on back to back layups.

The Lady Mountaineers led 22-7 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Lady Mountaineers lead would continue to grow. Keene would knock down two of her three-pointers in the quarter and one towards the closing minutes of the quarter which pushed the teams lead 16 points.

The Lady Bison team had no answer for the Lady Mountaineers in the second half despite getting a few baskets from Cline.

Leading largely by double digits in the fourth quarter, Keene would seal the game by knocking down her third made three-pointer to put the Lady Mountaineers ahead 43-18 with just minutes left to go.

Bryce Leitch scored five points for the Lady Mountaineers, while Zamera Hayslett added four points, and Abbie Fridley chipped in with two points, but also was dominant on the boards with 10+ rebounds.

The Lady Mountaineers made six three-pointers.

The Lady Mountaineers have two more home games this week with the Craig County Lady Rockets up next on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
