The losing streak is over.
The Alleghany Mountaineers (1-18/0-6) picked up their first win of the season on Monday night defeating the Parry McCluer Blues in a non-district matchup.
The victory for the Mountaineers ended a 27-match losing streak dating back to last season.
It wasn’t just any win for the Mountaineers either, it was a decisive victory as they beat the Fighting Blues in straight sets.
Outside of a close second set in which the Mountaineers won 26-24, the team controlled most of the match.
Led by her six kills, six digs, and seven aces, Abbi Riley set the tone of the night for the Mountaineers, who grabbed big contributions also from Hannah Hensley who had eight blocks to go along with three kills. Meanwhile, Kinsey Middleton led the team with nine assists.
The Mountaineers looked to keep that momentum going as they were back on the court last night hosting the Floyd County Buffaloes.
Meanwhile, the JV team picked up their 13th win of the season as they improved to 13-6 following their victory over the Fighting Blues JV team.
