Coming out of their bye week last week, the Bath County Chargers (2-2) on the road for the first time this season, dropped their second game of the season following a 50-7 loss on the road to the Buffalo Gap Bison (3-1).
The Chargers could not slow down the Bison who scored on all but one drive in the game.
Micah Canterbury led the Bison with a pair of touchdown passes to Luke Tinsley, while the team also had rushing touchdowns from four different players.
Despite the Chargers suffering the loss, Wyatt Campbell had the Bison defense on their toes and even rattled at times with his ability to scramble and avoid tackles. Campbell led the Chargers to their lone scoring drive of the game which occurred with under 30 seconds left in the first half, when Campbell connected with Andrew Turner for a 30 yard touchdown pass. Turner would also go on to make the PAT.
The Chargers trailed 22-7 at halftime.
However, despite the touchdown to end the first half, there was no momentum that carried over into the second half for the Chargers as the Bison’s defense stepped up and outscored the Chargers 28-0 in the second half. Donald Strother provided the Bison with an interception on the defensive side the of the ball in the second half.
Meanwhile, Bransen Gordon who led the Chargers in the run game last season against the Bison with 30 yards, also led the way again with a 71 yard performance, while Turner’s 30 yard reception touchdown was his only catch of the game which led the Chargers in receiving yards for the game.
It was the second season in a row that the Bison scored 50 or more points against the Chargers. Last season, on the road, the Bison won 54-0.
The Chargers head out to the Shenandoah Valley this Friday as they meet the Page County Panthers (1-4). This will be the Chargers second of three straight away games.
The Panthers lost last Friday 27-0 on the road last Friday against Madison County.
