The Alleghany County Bicentennial Celebration held at Mountain Gateway Community College on Sat., Sept. 17, drew many who viewed the antique cars on display.
More than 30 classic and antique cars were lined in rows on the grassy area in front of Backels Hall, the first building built for Dabney S. Lancaster Community College that opened in 1964.
DSLCC’s name was changed to Mountain Gateway Community College on July 1, and the school hosted the Alleghany Highlands Bicentennial Celebration.
From flame-painted vehicles to Corvettes and a 1957 Chevrolet along with motorcycles and other restored automobiles, the car show was set up adjacent to the bandstand where four bands provided a variety of music from bluegrass to blues and rock ‘n’ roll before the Eagles tribute band took that stage to perform the Eagles’ country rock hits.
