On Wednesday, the Covington Cougars (11-2) defeated non-district opponent the James River Knights in straight sets; 25-16, 25-20, 25-17.
Game leaders for the Cougars include; Kaiya Lian with six aces, Aubrey Brown with eight kills, and 15 digs, while Lexi Dressler had a game-high seven assists.
Meanwhile, the JV Cougars remained perfect as they improved to 13-0.
After dropping the first set 23-5, the Cougars bounced back to force a third set with 25-16 second set victory.
In the final set, the Cougars broke an 11-11 tie to go up 13-11. The Knights stormed back scoring three of the games next four points to tie the game at 14-14. However, it was the Cougars who broke the tie by ending the game with two straight points for the 16-14 victory.
Tuesday the Cougars got into the double digit win column following a four set Pioneer District victory over the Parry McCluer Fighting Blues.
After dropping the first set 26-28, the Cougars roared back winning the next two sets by a combined 20 points before putting the Fighting Blues away in the third set 25-19.
Leading the way for the Cougars in the teams victory was Lian who had a game-high 15 kills to go along with 10 digs, and four aces. Meanwhile, Brown added 13 kills and 13 digs, while Dressler led the team in assists with 13.
The JV cougars won their game over the Fighting Blues in two sets; 25-12, 25-22.
The Cougars are off until this coming Tuesday when they head up the mountain into Hot Springs to take district rival, the Bath County Chargers.
