Susie Plasters, the volunteer coordinator for American Red Cross based in Roanoke, has announced the Covington Community Blood Drive will be held Tues., Sept. 13, from noon till 6:00 p.m. at First Christian Church.

The blood drive will take place inside the church’s Fellowship Hall/Family Life Center at 231 E. Fudge St.

Plasters remarked, “Covington has a group of volunteers, and I feed them.”

She continued, “I like to feed them before they give blood.”

Each volunteer who donates blood will receive a limited-edition Red Cross T-shirt while the supplies last.

To register to give blood, volunteers may call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit RedCrossBlood.org to schedule their appointments.

Plasters, who has spearheaded many successful blood drives in Covington, has served in her position as the volunteer coordinator for nearly 20 years.

Concerning the blood drive on Tues., she concluded, “I don’t like to see them (volunteers) give blood on an empty stomach.”

Donors can streamline their donation experience by visiting RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass where they can complete their pre-donation reading and health history questions on the day of their appointment. Up to 15 minutes can be saved via their online visit.
