Will The Third Time Be The Charm? Lumberjacks/TomSox Rained Out Back To Back Days

The weather hasn’t been kind to the Covington Lumberjacks and the Charlottesville TomSox the last few days.

While other series are underway and have wrapped up in the 2022 Valley Baseball League (VBL) playoffs, the Lumberjacks and TomSox have yet started their best of three series.

The team’s series was set to begin on Tuesday, but due to the rain, game one was pushed back to Wednesday evening.

Then came Wednesday and the weather was once again not in either teams favor as rain hit once more which caused for game one to be postponed for the second straight day.

So as the saying goes “the third time is the charm”.

Well, let’s hope so. I’ll get more into that shortly.

After an announcement of the new schedule for the series in which the games would of taken place Thursday, Friday, and if necessary on Saturday for game three, there was a big change to the series schedule.

The series schedule change has been shifted on Thursday from Charlottesville to Harrisonburg.

Both team’s agreed to play a doubleheader at the Harrisonburg Turks home stadium at Eagle Field at Veteran’s Memorial Park today with game one beginning at 3:00 p.m. and game two following. Game three, if necessary, would take place in Charlottesville on Friday.

Unfortunately, due to the weather, the home fans of Covington, will not see their Lumberjacks play at Casey Field. At least not in this series. Should the Lumberjacks advance, they’ll have at least one home game in the second round.

As mentioned, hopefully the third time will be the charm for both baseball teams as the weather in Harrisonburg does look promising for today. There is chance for thunderstorms to come through early in the afternoon prior to the start of game one. However, the rest of the day is projected to be cloudy.

Other VBL Playoff Series:

North:

Woodstock River Bandits swept the Front Royal Cardinals 2-0. The Bandits will host the winner of the Express/Cannons game in the second round. Game 1: Cardinals 5, River Bandits 9. Game 2: River Bandits 6, Cardinals 2

Purcellville Cannons and Strasburg Express Tied 1-1; Game three will be played in Strasburg today. Game 1: Cannons 8, Express 6. Game 2: Express 8, Cannons 0.

South:

Harrisonburg Turks and Waynesboro Generals Tied 1-1; Game three is being played in Waynesboro this evening. Game 1: Turks 1, Generals 7. Game 2: Generals 5, Turks 7.
