The Lumberjacks offense continued leading the way in the second game of the doubleheader as the team took a 2-0 lead after four innings.
However after being held scoreless through the first 10 innings between the two games of the doubleheader, the Cannons offense came to life in the bottom of the fourth inning with a three run inning to take a 3-2 lead. Jack Connelly (0-for-3) and Brendan Roney (1-for-3) each had RBI’s that helped grab the Cannons first lead.
After surrendering the lead the Lumberjacks couldn’t get enough offense to bring in the tying or go-ahead runs.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Lumberjacks put the tying run on base, but Dalton Ross (S) secured his first save the of the season by striking out three and getting out of the potential Lumberjack rally.
Mason Millett making his first start of the season for the Lumberjacks pitched 3.1 scoreless innings where he gave up two hits, walked three, and struck out three.
Michael Piulats (2-for-3) led the Lumberjacks with a two-hit performance in game two along with the teams only RBI. Meanwhile, Baird (1-for-2), added to his league leading batting average as he extended it to . 396 on the season with one hit in two at bats along with one runs scored, and two walks.
The Lumberjacks were off on Wednesday and were on the road last night in Harrisonburg against the Turks. The team has a scheduled day off today, but will be back on the baseball diamond tomorrow when the team travels to Charlottesville to take on the TomSox.
