This weeks spotlight focus is on Covington Lumberjack, Gavin Baird.
Baird, as of June 28th, leads all of the Valley Baseball League (VBL) with a .375 batting average.
In 14 games, Baird has 18 hits in 48 at bats, while collecting two extra base hits (both doubles), along with four RBI’s, nine walks, and seven stolen bases which is the second most on the team behind Bradke Lohry’s 10 who is tied for the fourth most in the VBL.
In his 14 games he has appeared in, Baird has had six multi-hit performances.
Currently he is on a three-game hitting streak during the Lumberjacks three-game winning streak where he has four hits in his last 11 at bats.
Baird has hit safely in 12 of the 14 games he’s played in.
Of his seven steals, Baird has had two multi-stolen base games.
The Angleton, TX native this Fall will be entering Eastern Kentucky University as a junior.
In his first two years at college, Baird attended Bossier Parish Community College.
In 88 games played for Bossier, Baird had a .344 batting average where he had 98 hits in 285 at bats. Along with that, Baird had four home runs and 63 RBI’s through his first two seasons.
Baird, in his second year of community college, put together a staggering .365 average including 43 RBI’s which was more than double the amount he had in his first season.
