Alleghany County D.A.R.E. – 2022 – THEME – “DON’T GET LOST IN THE WOODS, STAY ON THE PATH”
5TH Graders at Callaghan, Mountain View, and Sharon Elementary Schools, recently completed the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program. Ceremonies were held in conjunction with the 5th-grade promotion programs at each school.
1st. Sergeant Chris Fisher and Deputy Ricky Bates were the instructors. Fisher taught the program at Mountain View and Sharon Elementary Schools, while Bates, taught at Callaghan. Beginning in September, and ending in April, there was a total of 12 lessons, presented at each school.
The D.A.R.E. curriculum is designed to teach the importance of making safe and responsible decisions, while also promoting a drug-free lifestyle.
The D.A.R.E. program was also presented to 8th graders at Clifton Middle School. 1st. Sgt. Fisher was the instructor, and presented 10 lessons over the 2021-2022 school year. Fisher was given instruction time in the civics classes of Mrs. Cline and Mrs. Fields.
According to 1st Sgt. Fisher, “the year was a success, and Deputy Bates and I were blessed to be able to teach the children the importance of making good decisions.” Both Deputy Bates, and I wish to thank the Alleghany County Public School System, all teachers and administrators of each school, The Alleghany County Board of Supervisors, Sheriff Kevin Hall, The P.T.O.’s of each school, all individuals and businesses that made donations to the program, and all parents for their continued support.
Students received a T-shirt, and goodie bags, along with a certificate for completing the program.
