The Alleghany Lady Mountaineers (14-2-2) girls soccer team continues to make school program history following their 8-0 victory over the Dan River Wildcats on Tuesday night in the Region 2C semifinals.
The Lady Mounties with the win, secured the programs first ever trip to a regional championship game, but the team also for the first time ever punched their ticket to the state tournament.
Senior, Kinley Eggleston, not only continued with her dominant season with a five goal performance in the Lady Mounties win, but also continued cementing her legacy at Alleghany. Eggleston, following her performance against the Wildcats is now over 40 (42 total) made goals.
Meanwhile, senior, Carlee Lanford, provided the Lady Mounties with two goals, and junior, Lucy Nicely, added one goal in the win.
The Lady Mounties will now play in the regional finals on Thursday against Three Rivers District rival, the Glenvar Highlanders (15-4).
The Lady Mounties are 2-0 against the Highlanders this season. In their first meeting at Alleghany, the Lady Mounties shutout the Highlanders 7-0. Eggleston provided a season-best six goals in that first meeting. In their second go around on May 5th, the Lady Mounties edged the Highlanders 2-1. Eggleston and senior, Ashtyn Bishop, each scored goals. Eggleston, scored the winning goal late in the second half.
The Highlanders reached the regional final by defeating Chatham on Tuesday, 8-0.
The Highlanders have won five of their last six games prior to their last loss against the Lady Mounties. Meanwhile, the Lady Mountie have won a seasons-best six in a row.
The regional final takes place Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in Salem.
