Last week the Alleghany Lady Mountaineers (8-2) varsity softball team saw their six-game winning streak get snapped by the Floyd County Buffaloes, 8-7.

Five days later, the Lady Mounties bounced back in a big way with an 11-4 victory on the road against the Glenvar Highlanders.

After taking the loss for the first time this season against the Buffaloes, Kendell Keene (W, 0-for-4), came back in a big way with a complete game victory as she went seven innings while giving up four runs (three earned) on eight hits, walking four, and striking out three. With the win, Keene, improved to 6-1 on the season.

It was a collective offensive attack from the Lady Mounties as the team finished with eight hits in the win over the Highlanders. Averi Phillips (2-for-5), had a team-high two RBI’s. Meanwhile, Erin Harden (2-for-4) and Kinsey Middleton (2-for-4) each picked up a pair of hits in the win.

While Keene pitched a complete game, so did Highlanders starter, Savannah Luper (L, 1-for-3). Luper, gave up 11 runs (seven earned) on eight hits in seven innings pitched while walking four and striking out five.

The Highlanders matched the Lady Mounties in hits with eight, but outside of the first two innings where the team scored a run in each of the innings, the offense struggled at the plate while trying to figure out Keene. Kayliegh Saunders (2-for-3), was the only Highlander to have a multi-hit day for the team against Keene. Sophie McCulley (1-for-4), led the team with two RBI’s.

The Lady Mounties scored seven runs through the first four innings.

Next up, the Lady Mounties are back on the diamond tomorrow as the team travels to Carroll County to take on the Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m.
