Clark Blasts Wallace With Charge Of Life
Lashing back with “lie” at Henry A. Wallace’s criticisms abroad, the administration
picked up support today for President Truman’s program aimed at shutting the door
on Communism in Greece and Turkey.
While Wallace went unnamed in the blistering denunciation, Attorney General Tom
Clark fired at “the cheap, blundering assault now being made by some upon the bipartisan
foreign policy of our nation,” the reference was obvious.

Apollo 16 On Way To Moon
Apollo 16 hurtled onward today toward a Thursday landing on the moon’s mountainous
rooftop while engineer on earth wrestled with the mysterious peeling of protective
skin of the lunar lander Orion.
Particles of the outer aluminum foil and mylar thermal blanket were observed Sunday
flaking away from an area several square feet in size near Orion’s reaction control system
fuel tanks.

Snake In The Grasp

Baseball Retires No. 42 In Honor Of Jackie Robinson
And now, No. 42 belongs to a baseball eternity, much as the man who wore it with such dignity and grace while changing the face of his game and his country.
Baseball moved dramatically to preserve the memory of Jackie Robinson on the 50th anniversary of his major league debut by permanently retiring the number of the modern game’s first black player.

Alleghany Courthouse Anniversary Observed
Local officials marked the 100th anniversary of the Alleghany County Courthouse Sunday afternoon during a ceremony held in the Alleghany County Circuit Courtroom and sponsored by the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.
“We are a nation of laws,” said Greg Madsen, chamber president. “They keep us free and just and this building is at the center of that.”
Oil Prices Fall As Iran Tensions Ease
Oil prices are falling as tensions eased over Iran’s nuclear program. Benchmark U.S. crude lost 60 cents today to $102.23 per barrel in New York while Brent crude lost $2.01 to $119.22 per barrel in London. Iran, the world’s third-largest oil exporter, has been accused of developing a nuclear weapon. Western nations have taken steps this year to halt Iran’s oil trade in hopes of convincing its leaders to negotiate.
