The Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Covington is pleased to announce that the Rev. Jim Giles, former pastor and current stated supply pastor of the Johnson’s Creek ARP Church, will give the message and hold Holy Communion for Maundy Thursday, April 14th @ 7 pm in the Edgemont Sanctuary. The Session of Edgemont Congregation has invited the Johnson’s Creek ARP Church to attend this service, as has been a past custom over many years Johnson’s Creek ARP Church has invited the Edgemont ARP Congregation to it’s Easter Sunday sunrise Service every year for decades and are doing so again this year.
Rev Jim Giles was the pastor of the Ebenezer ARP Church in Lexington, Va from 2007 till 2013. Rev. Giles has also previously served as stated supply pastor of the Johnson’s Creek ARP Church and has been a frequent guest pastor over the years at Edgemont ARP Church, as well as both Fletcher’s Chapel and Hoke Chapel United Methodist Churches
Frederick James Giles was born in Danville, VA, and grew up and attended schools in Chatham. VA. At the age of 18, Jim enrolled in the Radio Broadcasting School in Atlanta, GA. Upon graduation, he received his radio broadcasting license. Rev Giles worked in radio for a number of years, working at stations, in Chatham, Norton, Appomattox, and Lynchburg, VA.
In 1968 Jim entered the United States Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War Era in Radio and Television Broadcasting for the Marines. He was Honorably Discharged in 1970.
Upon his discharge from the Marines, Jim entered the new and upcoming field of computer technology and operations programming. He previously worked for IBM systems management, operations, and programming for a number of years. His computer qualifications brought Jim to Westvaco Corporation in Covington in 1988. While at Westvaco Jim became in charge of the Mills IBM virtual systems on the Company’s IBM Mainframe and two digital mainframe systems. Rev Giles retired from Westvaco in 2008 with 20 years of Service.
Jim Giles was called into the ministry of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and ordained a minister of the Gospel in Covington, Virginia on Feb 17, 2002, at the First Christian Church in Covington, Va.
Frederick James Giles has been married to his wife, Laura Lee since 1986. They are the proud parents of 4 children and have 7 Grand Children and 3 Great Grand Children.
The Edgemont Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church is excited to have Rev Jim Giles conduct the Maundy Thursday, Service and preside over the serving of communion on Maundy Thursday at 7 PM. The Edgemont Chancel Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Anne Scruggs with Mrs. Beverly Barnett on the organ and piano, will provide traditional Holy Week music for this special event Traditional Communion will be served by the Session of the Church and special self-contained communion packages will be available in the narthex.
