After dropping their first two games of the season, the Alleghany Mountaineers (2-2) varsity baseball team has won their last two games, following a 13-0 shutout victory over the Parry McCluer Fighting Blues on Friday evening.
The Mounties who were coming off a 22-1 victory at the Fighting Blues on Tuesday, picked right back where they left off on Friday.
Halen Lowman (W), led the Mounties to victory as he threw a complete game shutout. Lowman, shut down the opposing Fighting Blues all evening long as he held them to just one hit, while striking out eight batters and walking just one.
On the offensive side of the ball, Lowman (1-for-2), helped himself out with his bat as he collected two RBI’s. Lowman and Drew Craft (1-1), led the Mounties with each knocking in a pair of RBI’s. The Mounties in total had nine players with RBI’s in the game.

Smith, had the lone hit of the game for the Fighting Blues. He hit a two out double in the first inning. After that, Lowman, would retire the next seven batters faced before he walked Smith on a hit by pitch.
The run support for the Mounties in their 13-0 victory all started with a five-run first inning. With one out in the bottom of the first inning, with two on base, Eli Weese (1-for-2) scored the first run of the game on a throwing error by Smith. This led to three straight hits by the Mounties including Lowman’s two-run single that put the team ahead 5-0.
The Mounties would add two runs in the second and third innings to go ahead 9-0. In the home half of the fourth inning, the Mounties added four more runs to take a 13-0 lead. The inning was highlighted by Craft’s two-run single that at the time put the team up 12 runs.
The Mounties were back on the diamond last evening at Covington. We’ll have the full story of that game in our Thursday edition and also on our website, virginianreview.com.
