Dear Editor,
April has been proclaimed clean-up the month in the Alleghany Highlands by the four local governing bodies. The efforts are being led by the Covington Woman’s Club of GFWC and the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism.
But, you do not need to wait until April to clean up! Please start now to pick up trash on the roadsides.
Each citizen, as is able, is encouraged to clean up at least one bag of litter during the week of April 10-16. Clubs, organizations, businesses, churches, and families are encouraged to select a location for cleanup and to report the time and date to the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism at 962-2178. The Chamber will post these dates, as well as before and after photos, on the Alleghany Proud Facebook page. You must take the before and after photos, and send them to the Chamber at mpersinger@ahchamber.com.
The Chamber also has orange trash bags that may be used for pick up. Contact the Chamber at 962-2178 to set a time to pick up bags. When full, these can be placed on the side of the road and the Virginia Department of Transportation will pick them up. Contact VDOT at 965-5860 to let them know where the orange bags are located. The Chamber also has pickup sticks to loan for use that you may check out.
Let’s all work together to keep our community litter-free! Please dispose of trash in containers. Do not allow your trash to make our community untidy!
Let’s make the Alleghany Highlands the cleanest place in Virginia! Let’s keep the Alleghany Highlands a beautiful place to live, work, and play!
Sincerely,
Nancy M. Moga, Covington Woman’s Club
