“Early Meeting Is Expected Between Stalin And Marshall”
An early meeting between Prime Minister Stalin and Secretary of State Marshall, likely to have far reaching effects on Soviet American relations generally, was predicted in diplomatic quarters today as the Four Power Foreign Ministers’ Conference entered its second week.
Covington’s first post-war “trade-days” wound up Saturday afternoon, acclaimed by merchants without exception as “exceeding all expectations.”

President Nixon Asks Congress To Block Pupil Busing Orders
President Nixon formally asked Congress today to block temporarily all further pupil-busing orders by the federal courts while it wrestles with long range proposals to equalize the quality of education in all schools.
Pilot Plant To Open In Covington Monday
The pilot plant of Halmode Apparels, Inc. is planning to begin operations in Covington, Monday, according to Louis J. Turk, vice president of the Company. Eight or ten machines will be started at that time and about eight or ten machines a day will be added until the capacity of the building has been reached.

Thomas Reamer Wallace, co-founder of the Bath County real estate firm Clarkson and Wallace, died today at Bath County Community Hospital in Hot Springs. He was 84.

President Obama: Kill Oil Industry Tax Breaks
Pump prices on his mind, President Barack Obama says Congress should kill tax breaks for the oil and gas industry and help develop alternative sources of energy. Obama said Saturday in his weekly radio and Internet address that he expected Congress to consider in the next few weeks ending $4 billion in tax subsidies, a move he has failed to persuade lawmakers to make during his term.
