STAUNTON, Va. (VR) – Alleghany High School boys tennis kept pace in singles but couldn’t close the door in doubles, falling 5–4 to Riverheads.
Singles play opened strong for Alleghany. Bubby Entsminger set the tone with an 8–4 win in the first match. Ayven Warren followed with a 9–8 victory, and Parker Willis added an 8–4 win to give Alleghany three singles points.
Alleghany dropped three singles matches, however, as Riley Smith fell 5–8, Colten Jones lost 2–8, and Quinten Harris came up just short in a 7–9 decision.
Doubles swung the match to Riverheads. Entsminger/Smith lost 2–8, Warren/Jones dropped 3–8, and the pairing of Harris and Tallman provided Alleghany’s lone doubles win with a 9–7 finish.
