November 7, 1977- Clifton Forge's Les Tinsley catches a pass for good yardage and Covington's Donnell Ross makes the tackle during the Little Brown Jug football game Saturday night at Memorial Park in Clifton Forge. The Bath County Chargers (3-18) boys varsity basketball team fell behind early and couldn’t overcome their quiet start as the Craig County Rockets (8-7) blew them out on Monday evening by the final score of 59-38.

In the game, there wasn’t a turning point that could of changed the game around. There wasn’t a few missed shots that had they gone the other way around, could of changed the game.

The Rockets, on Monday, were the better team.

After opening the game scoring the first six points, the Chargers needed to regroup and called a timeout. Following the timeout, Issac Gwin knocked down his only basket of the game to cut the lead down to four points at 6-2.

The Rockets though, would score seven straight points to close out the quarter to take a 13-2 lead. After grabbing a double digit lead, the team never looked back and maintained that double digit lead the rest of the game.

In the second quarter, the Rockets unanswered scoring run would continue to a 12-0 run to give the team a 18-2 lead.

Leading 25-8, Matthew Lucas, scored the teams seven of their final eight points of the half. The Rockets took a 33-8 lead going into the second half.

Trying to rally in the second half, the Chargers opened the third quarter scoring the first seven points to cut the lead down to 18 points. Andrew Turner, scored five of his 10 points during the scoring run.

The 18-point deficit is as close as the Chargers would get though as the Rockets followed the Chargers scoring run but scoring the next eight points to take a 41-15 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Rockets maintained their 20-point lead and even saw the lead grow to as high as 30 points.

The Chargers, never quit despite the large deficit. Down 59-28, the team went on a 10-0 scoring run to end the game.

The Rockets finished the game with a field goal percentage of 43% (21-49) while the Chargers shot 24% (13-55).

Colton Moore, led all scorers with a game-high 15 points for the Rockets, while bringing down six rebounds, dishing out five assists, and two steals. Meanwhile, Lucas, was second in scoring for the game with 14 points. Zachary Peters, had a quality overall performance with nine points, five rebounds, a game-high seven assists, and three steals.

The Chargers were led by Turner and Blayton Loudermilk, who each scored 10 points. Branson Gordon, led the team in rebounds with seven.

The Chargers finish their regular season tomorrow night as the team hosts the Narrows.
