On Sunday, the DSLCC Roadrunners (10-8), were left with searching for answers after their 69-55 loss to the Oxford College Eagles (7-9).
The loss for the Roadrunners, was the teams sixth in their last seven games.
Despite grabbing a double-double from Noreyn Lasley, 12 points, 12 rebounds, it wasn’t enough for the Roadrunners, who had three players in double figures scoring.
The Eagles grabbed four players in double figures, with Kabir Bergin leading the team with a team-high 15 points to go along with nine rebounds.
After opening the game with the first two points scored, the Roadrunners watched the Eagles go on a 15-4 scoring run to take a 15-6 lead. The Eagles would increase their lead to 26-11.
Trailing now by 15 points, the Roadrunners used a 15-2 scoring run to cut the deficit to two points at 28-26. The team would miss out potential tying or taking the lead on their final five possessions at the end of the first half.
Down only four points going into the second half, the Roadrunners wouldn’t capitalize on their late first half scoring run to close the gap further as the Eagles slowly and steadily built their lead back up to 10 points with under 12 minutes left in the game.
The Eagles would maintain their balance of good defense and steady offense to a 14-point victory.
The Roadrunners were held to 31% shooting in the second half. The team did go to the free throw line 12 times, all coming in the second half, but only made half of their free throw attempts.
The Eagles defeated the Roadrunners on Saturday as well by the final score of 63-48.
In Saturday’s game, the Roadrunners went cold in the second half as they only scored 13 total points and were held to under 16% shooting in the second half.
In the loss, Lasley, recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
