WestRock’s Covington mill recently announced its 2021 Christmas Card competition winner, David Hayslett. His acrylic painting is an image of two antique trucks, one with a load of pulpwood and one with a cut evergreen tree for Christmas, in a snowy forest scene.
Hayslett received a monetary award for winning the contest, and his artwork is featured on the mill’s 2021 Christmas card which has been mailed to all employees and retirees, in addition to business and community leaders throughout the United States and abroad.
Artwork from Ginny Neil and Julie Andrews will make up this year’s WestRock holiday greetings in the local media. Their artwork was chosen from the entries in this year’s annual Christmas card competition.
Neil’s painting was done in watercolor and then digitally manipulated. It depicts a woodland scene with a Christmas tree decorated with WestRock garland and presents with WestRock tags, a deer, and a father and son dragging home a cut Christmas tree.
Andrew’s design was done in pen and ink. It depicts the corner of Main Street and Maple Avenue during the holidays with the Christmas parade coming down the street led by Santa driving an antique Covington Fire Truck. The Covington High School band is following Santa.
“Many thanks to the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center for their assistance and partnership with the WestRock Christmas Card Contest,” said WestRock spokesperson Rebecca Johnson.
