CLIFTON FORGE — The Historic Masonic Theatre is opening The Underground Lounge and Café on Saturdays and Sundays for gathering, entertainment, and food and beverage.

Justin Reiter, Historic Masonic Theatre executive director said, “Over the past eighteen months we have been thinking of new opportunities to serve our community. The one item that kept coming up from people in the community is that there is no place to go at night for live music, comedy and to watch sporting events. That’s when we reimagined The Underground as an entertainment and sports viewing venue complete with a state-of-the-art sound system and large screen televisions. We’ve also obtained the NFL package, so you won’t miss a game on Sundays.”

The Underground will feature snacks, a full-service bar, draft specials, and comfortable seating.

The Underground will operate on Saturdays from 5 to 11 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“We are starting off small, but if we see some success, we may add additional hours of operations. We are continuing to offer the Underground for rental space as well—it is very popular with people who want a special venue for parties, reunions, receptions, forums, book readings and other various events. When people tour the Theatre, they gasp with surprise when they see The Underground with Smith Creek running beside it and a view of Underground Clifton Forge from the windows,” Reiter said.

There will be a $5 cover charge, and anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

“Our friendly bartenders will be checking IDs. We are very excited to offer the Theatre’s very special Underground facilities to the community as yet another way to gather so that people can enjoy each other’s company,” Reiter said.

Entrance to The Underground is off Church Street next to the Masonic Amphitheatre or off 510 Main Street down the fire escape stairs to the Amphitheatre. Masks are not required in The Underground but are strongly recommended when moving about the Underground.

Reiter concluded by saying, “We look forward to welcoming you to enjoy social time with your friends and family enjoying a game or live music. Check our website www.historicmasonictheatre and our Facebook page for upcoming events and specials.”
