FORT DEFIANCE, Va. (VR) –  The Alleghany girls cross country team turned in a strong performance Wednesday at Fort Defiance, taking first place in the 5K with a team score of 24.

Alleghany finished ahead of Fort Defiance, which scored 34 points, as the Cougars put five runners inside the top eight.

Faith Barron led the way for Alleghany, finishing second overall in 21:14.00. Maggie Hensley followed in fifth at 23:55.00, with Annebelle Williams sixth in 23:59.00.

Willow Morgan placed seventh in 24:07.00, while Madilyn Via rounded out Alleghany’s top five with an eighth-place finish in 24:13.00.

Adrienne Downs finished 10th in 24:53.00, followed by Kaylee Snook in 12th at 25:09.00 and Charlotte Taylor in 13th at 25:17.00.

Carlea Weikle placed 14th in 26:07.00, Alexandra Downs was 15th in 26:24.00, Elise Schaper finished 16th in 26:26.00 and Avery Spinks was 17th in 26:27.00. Ava Ledford placed 22nd in 28:29.00, while Solara Kern finished 25th in 32:45.00.

The Alleghany boys finished third with 50 points.

Maddox Hale paced the Cougars with a fifth-place finish in 18:44.00. Cole Bowser was sixth in 19:08.00, followed closely by Lincoln Rosales in eighth at 19:09.00.

Braedan Lemons finished 15th in 20:39.00, while Carter Wyatt was 16th in 20:42.00. Nolan Rosales placed 18th in 20:59.00.

Everett Craft finished 23rd in 21:27.00, followed by Levi Wilkerson in 33rd at 23:20.00 and Jacob Graham in 34th at 24:00
