COVINGTON, VA and ALPHARETTA, GA (VR) – As part of its ongoing growth plan, Highlands Community Bank has promoted Daniel Lawson, CPA, to Virginia Market President.

Lawson will oversee the bank’s three Virginia branches in Clifton Forge, Covington and Hot Springs, and will be active in serving the community and helping customers with their financial needs, including deposit and lending relationships.

“The bank is very excited for Daniel and we look forward to his leadership of the Virginia market,” said Robert Hemsath, CEO of Highlands Community Bank. “Daniel has been an integral part of this bank for more than 10 years, and his promotion is well deserved. Our customers know him, and he knows them.”

A native of Covington and a graduate of Covington High School, Lawson joined Highlands in 2016 as Chief Financial Officer and has served on the bank’s board of directors since 2022. He is a familiar, trusted local leader who has been part of the Highlands team for a decade.

“I grew up here, and I’ve spent ten years helping this bank serve our neighbors,” said Lawson. “I’m proud to lead our Virginia team as the bank grows. Our commitment to Covington, Clifton Forge and Hot Springs stays the same, and we’ll have more resources to back it up.”

Lawson’s promotion is part of a deliberate plan to expand the bank’s executive leadership team and extend its reach. Highlands Community Bank is adding experienced leaders and a new presence in metro Atlanta, where it will operate as Georgia Skyline Bank, a division of Highlands Community Bank. The added scale and leadership depth strengthen the bank’s ability to grow deposits, expand lending and serve customers in both regions.

“We’re building on a strong foundation,” said Ryan C. Floyd of Georgia Skyline Bank.

“Highlands has 24 years of trust in its communities, and our team is excited to bring the same relationship-driven approach to the businesses and entrepreneurs of North Fulton and metro Atlanta. We’re glad to see a leader like Daniel guiding the Virginia market.”

Across both markets, the bank will focus on consumer lending, commercial and industrial lending, commercial real estate financing, business lines of credit, letters of credit and customized financial solutions for individuals, closely held companies, entrepreneurs and professional service firms.
