Tonight, the Alleghany Mountaineers Varsity Football team hosts the Staunton River Golden Eagles.
This game was originally scheduled for Friday, September 24, but was rescheduled for September 28th and then was re-re scheduled to today.
The Mountaineers are coming off of the teams first shut out loss of the season this past Friday night when they lost to the visiting James River (Buchanan) Knights 29-0.
It’s been a rough go for the Mountaineers since the teams season opening victory over Roanoke Catholic.
In the teams second actual game of the season, the team lost a heart breaker against the Covington Cougars in overtime 20-19.
Since the loss to the Cougars, the Mountaineers in three games have only managed to score a total of 14 points.
During the teams four-game losing streak, they have been outscored 133-33.
It won’t get any easier for the Mountaineers as their previous Blue Ridge District rival, Golden Eagles come in with a 2-2 record, but are averaging 26 points a game.
The Golden Eagles are also coming off of a 21-10 loss to Franklin County and will be looking to bounce back following a tough tested home loss.
Scoring on the Golden Eagles will be a daunting task as the team is only giving up just over 17 points a game.
The Mountaineers defense performed well last week despite the giving up 29 points.
The team forced several three-and-outs and will need an even bigger performance to stop the Golden Eagles.
Coming into the game, Kole Caldwell has 185 yards passing to go along with one touchdown, and four interceptions.
One player to watch out from the Golden Eagles is senior running back, Jalin Martin. Martin can rip through a defense and can stay on his feet despite numerous tacklers trying to bring him down.
