Opposing quarterbacks have a problem when facing the Richmond Spiders defense, and that problem is Covington High School alum, Tyler Dressler.
Dressler has been a menace to opposing quarterbacks this season.
In the Richmond Spiders (2-0) 31-3 route of the Lehigh Mountain Hawks (0-2) on Saturday, Dressler recorded his first interception (INT) of the season.
Two weekends ago in the Spiders season opening 38-14 victory over the Howard Bison, Dressler had a forced fumble on Bison quarterback Quinton Williams. The forced fumble led to a Spiders touchdown.
With the Spiders leading the Mountain Hawks 21-3 in the second quarter, quarterback Cross Wilkinson felt the pressure from a defensive rush by the defensive line after having dropped back two steps and as he was hit, Wilkinson threw the ball to the left side of the field and into the hands of Dressler who returned the INT for five yards and into Mountain Hawk territory.
Four plays later, Spiders quarterback, Joe Mancuso found an open Leroy Henley in the endzone for his second touchdown pass of the game. After a made extra point, the Spiders took a 28-3 lead.
Dressler finished the game with five total tackles (one solo and four assisted on).
Both of the turnovers created by Dressler have resulted in a touchdown for the Spiders offense and as a result has been a big issue for opposing quarterbacks when facing the Spiders defense led by Dressler.
The Spiders are back on the field this Saturday for their first road game of the year against the 2-0 Villanova Wildcats.
