Week three of Friday Night Lights in the Alleghany Highlands, is highlighted by tomorrow nights Brackman Cup showdown between the visiting Alleghany Mountaineers and the Covington Cougars at Boodie Albert Stadium.
After having had defeated the Mountaineers once in over twenty years, the Cougars after their win in March are riding a three-game winning streak against the Mountaineers.
In 2018, the streak began with a 28-7. It was just the second time the school won the Brackman Cup.
The following year, the Cougars won 47-33, and as mentioned, just a few months ago in March, the school won 28-21, for the third consecutive year.
This will be the second to last meeting between the schools before they consolidate in 2023.
The Cougars will look to win their fifth Brackman Cup and the third on their home field.
The Mountaineers opened their season with a 43-6 victory over Roanoke Catholic.
Last week the team did not play after their game with Bath County was postponed.
For the Cougars, they kicked off their season with a shutout victory over Bath County 22-0.
Last week the team could not weather the storm that the Staunton Storm delivered.
The Cougars defense gave up over 350 yards of offense to the Storm.
In the last four meetings between the two schools, the Mountaineers defense has given up an average of over 30 points a game to the Cougars offense.
The last time a Cougars offense was held under double digits in scoring by the Mountaineers, was in 2016. The Mountaineers won that game 24-9 at Mountaineer Field.
Kickoff tomorrow is set for 7:00 p.m.
