CLIFTON FORGE - Edward Lee Crance died at his home on July 29.
He was 91 though most days he would tell you he was much younger.
Known throughout the community as Mr. Ed, he lived a full, satisfying and, more importantly, a laughter filled life.
The Big Hoot especially loved the many wonderful healthcare providers and special girlfriends and lady friends that showered him with affection and love as his health declined in recent years.
Ed was an avid amateur radio enthusiast and enjoyed teaching people about all aspect of radio.
He had the gift of gab and was at his best when he could tease and laugh with people.
He was a WWII Army Veteran, a railroader and, most of all, one big tease.
He is survived by a sister, Anna Laura Adams, of Randolph VA, four daughters, Sue Wood and her husband, Greg of Goode, Betty Crance of Fincastle, and Jeannie and Bonnie Crance of Clifton Forge; two sons and their wives, Linnie, and his wife Pam of Clifton Forge and Rusty and his wife Cindy of Lexington.
In addition, he leaves behind eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Martha Dodd Crance.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m., at Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, mostly to share Big Ed stories.
A celebration of his life will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Botetourt County.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alleghany Highlands Free Clinic, P.O. Box 216, Low Moor, Va., 24457.
