LYNCHBURG, Va. (VR) – Salem jumped on Hill City early and stayed in control the rest of the way, posting a 10–2 win behind 10 hits, 5-for-10 with runners in scoring position, and a three-pitcher effort that limited the Howlers to two runs.
Stanley Tucker led the way offensively, going 2-for-4 with 2 runs, 3 RBI, and a third-inning home run off Chase Mobley with one on and two outs. Avinson Pinto finished 2-for-4 with 2 runs, 2 RBI, and a walk. Frederik Jimenez went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run. Andruw Musett scored three times, going 1-for-4 with a walk. Starlyn Nunez was 1-for-4 with a run, RBI, and a walk. Skylar King finished 1-for-4 with a run and two stolen bases. Andrews Opata went 1-for-5. Iian Fernandez was 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. Luke Heyman added an RBI via sac fly.
Salem’s lineup produced in key spots, going 5-for-10 with runners in scoring position and leaving five on base.
On the mound, Cole Tolbert set the tone with 4.0 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 run (earned) and striking out 4. Jacob Mayers followed with 3.1 innings, 1 run (earned), 4 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Griffin Kilander closed it out with 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 2.
Salem also turned a double play (Tolbert to Jimenez, Fr.), and controlled the game’s tempo from the third inning onward.
