April 28 1936
Today’s Headline: Local Chamber Of Commerce Opposes C&O Application To Discontinue ‘Merry Widow.’
The Covington Chamber of Commerce opposed an application of the C&O Railway to the State Corporation Commission today for discontinuing a one-way train between Covington and Clifton Forge. The railway seeks to discontinue the train “The Merry Widow” because of a cost since 1933 of 38.4 cents per train mile and a lost in operating revenue of 31.1 cents per train mile.

Today’s Headline: A Sentimental Farewell To Members Of Loyal Team.
The finishing and dyeing department of Russell Lawson’s shift at the Industrial Rayon Corporation in Covington enjoyed a farewell banquet Wednesday morning in the Rayon cafeteria. Packing will be continued for four more days before the department is closed.
William Ray Persinger of Low Moor is indisposed of in his home with chicken pox.

Today’s Headline: Drewry Running For Clifton Forge Seat.
Robert Drewry, dean of financial and administrative services at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College is one of seven candidates seeking election to Clifton Forge Council on the May ballot.
Mrs. Geraldine Loving spent the weekend in Richwood, W.Va. visiting her daughter, Karen, who is employed there.
