Today’s Headline: Council Passes Ordinance For Reduced Rates.
At a special meeting of the Town Council of Covington yesterday a proposed ordinance for the reduction of the commercial rates on electricity by the Virginia Public Service Company was proposed.
Mr. F.A. Showalter of Lynchburg arrived yesterday to spend several days on business in Low Moor.

Today’s Headline: Falling Spring Students Tour Lexington.
The fourth grade students at Falling Spring school traveled by bus to Lexington April 26 to see some of the historic background of battles and experiences that made Virginia famous in the founding of the nation.
C.N. “Pop” Newsome was presented a plaque at the annual dinner of the VFW post last night. He was recognized for his untiring effort on behalf of the youth of this area.

CHS has announced that Matthew Peter Bayly is valedictorian and Kimberly Yvonne Martin is salutatorian of the class of 1986.
Jack Jamison will seek another term on Covington City Council in the May 6 election.

Covington’s parks and recreation department is being assisted by volunteers in the ongoing efforts to spruce up the city.
Ellen Reynolds has been named the 2006 Virginia Project Learning Tree (PLT) Outstanding Educator.
