Today’s Headline: Public Is Invited For Two-Day Open House At Douthat.
Douthat State Park, now nearing completion after nearly three years of development by federal and state park agencies, was placed at the disposal of the public this morning for a two-day open house preceding the official opening in June.
Mr. R.A. Hooks of Bridge Street was called Friday to Philadelphia by the illness of his father, who is a patient in a hospital in that city.

Today’s Headline: Jan Van Horn Is Awarded $50 By Gov. Almond.
Jan Van Horn, a fifth grader at Moody Elementary School, will receive a $50 award from Gov. J. Lindsay Almond in Richmond May 12 for his winning entry in the annual essay contest.
H.L. “Bunny” Harrison, a former employee of Covington Goodyear Tire Store, is now serving as a new manager of Chittum Tire Company.

Today’s Headline: Alderson Asks For New Trial In Greg Frye Case.
Chris Alderson, a Covington attorney who represented Gregory David Frye, sentenced to death for the December 1984 capital murder of Virginia State Police Sergeant James L. Biggs, asked the Virginia Supreme Court Monday for a new trial during the case review held in Richmond.
Robert Kelley is one of four candidates seeking election to Covington City Council on the May 7 ballot.

A reception was held last night to welcome new Covington City Manager Claire Collins. She began her duties as city manager Monday.
