The death of former Councilman Charley Davis marks the passing of another of Covington’s oldest and most popular citizens. Notice of the death of “Uncle Charlie” will be received with much sorrow throughout the community.
Mr. Odlin Spangler of Peterstown, W.Va., was a recent guest of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Spangler on Bridge Street.

Today’s Headline: Budget Will Be Discussed.
Alleghany County School Board will meet at 2 p.n. Tuesday at the Courthouse with the possible approval of the proposed 1961-62 budget and discussion of the proposed 1961-62 school calendar heading the agenda.
Patricia Fridley is ill at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fridley with chicken pox.

Today’s Headline: Council Reviews Flood Repairs.
At its regular monthly work session Tuesday, Covington City Council discussed an appropriation of $83,300 to pay for repairs necessary due to the November 4 flood.
The driver of a pulpwood truck escaped injury when one of the tandem rear wheels fell off causing the truck to overturn on Route 687 yesterday afternoon.

Over 130 firefighters and guests attended Saturday’s annual banquet of the Covington Fire Department.
Eliza Fulton Cole has been named 2006 Tiny Miss Bath County and Kendall Morgan Keyser has been named the 2006 Little Miss Bath County.
