“G-Men” came in from Washington, arrested Dennis B. McDaniel at Mallow in Alleghany County, in the February 10 robbery of a Ballston bank.
Miss Kit Massie of the Jeter School faculty and Mr. Robert West Jr. have returned from Nelson County, where they spent the weekend at Miss Massie’s home.

Today’s Headline: Lions District Governor Visits Covington March 7.
The Covington Lions Club will be host to District Governor E. Lewis Knowles of Staunton at its meeting Tues., March 7, at 6:30 p.m.
Miss Tuxie Hardy of Fredericksburg will arrive today for the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.I. Hardy of Fairlawn.

Today’s Headline: AHS Sweeps Basketball Titles.
Alleghany was told not to cut down the nets in the Staunton River gym if they won the Blue Ridge District championship.
Tournament officials wasted their words.
Minutes after Alleghany beat Lord Botetourt 74-64 in the title game, both baskets were picked clean.
A small fire was quickly extinguished at Westvaco in a cooling tower that was being demolished.

Today’s Headline: Efficiency Review Of Schools In Jeopardy.
An efficiency review of the Covington and Alleghany County school divisions has been postponed indefinitely by recent action taken by the Virginia House of Delegates.
Alleghany County Public Schools’ test of a new rapid notification system on Friday, Jan. 24 was described as a success. Fred Vaughan, the school division’s director of student services, said 86 percent of calls were successfully delivered.
