HOT SPRINGS – Lloyd Swearengin, 73, of 625 Roxbury Street, Clifton Forge, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 1, 2011.
He was born Oct. 27, 1937 in Highland County, the son of the late Hugh and Emma Robertson Swearengin.
Lloyd was the very devoted husband of Glenda Dalton Swearengin for 23 years.
He was a wonderful grandfather. He adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He attended Valley High School.
Mr. Swearengin was a veteran of the United States Navy having served his country for three years. He was a very dedicated member and usher of the Temple Baptist Church in Covington. He loved the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing and golfing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters and three sons; Kathy Hall and husband Burrell of Clifton Forge, Linda Bailey and John McConnell of Hot Springs, Paulette Gilbert and husband Jeff of Chandler, Ariz., Helen Pettus and husband Houston of Richmond, Tracy Williams of Littlestown, Pa., Michael Williams and wife Juanita (who was like a daughter to him) of Clifton Forge, Dennis Swearengin and wife Denise of Covington; six granddaughters, Shannon Nichols, Ashlee and Beth Williams, Sierra Fisher, Rachel Hall and Shannon Shanebrook; seven grandsons, Reid and Robert Hall, Tracy II, Erick and Tyler Williams, PFC Andrew McConnell and Colton Swearengin; two brothers, James “Leo” Swearengin of Staunton, Berlyn “Jake” Swearengin of Eden, N.C.; two sisters, Montague “Sis” Ryder of Warm Springs, and Charlotte Shifflett of Hot Springs; a very special family friend, Robyn Blank; and his beloved dog, Patches.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett and Harold “Ham” Swearengin and a sister, Clarice Davis.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at Temple Baptist Church in Covington with the Rev. William Hartsfield, the Rev. Bob Smith and the Rev. Brandon Lomasney officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
