W.A. Rule was elected to the presidency of the Clifton Forge Retail Merchants Association at the annual meeting of the organization at the Jefferson Hotel in Clifton Forge last night. He succeeds Swinton Roadcap as president.
Mrs. Bessie Hatcher will spend Sunday in Washington, D.C. She will be met there by her son, Dr. William S. Hatcher of New York City.

Today’s Headline: Local Man Says He Is Robber.
A Covington resident, Jack Lee Hiler Jr., of 732 S. Lexington St., has surrendered to Alleghany County Sheriff M.W. Swoope and signed a statement admitting the theft of several hundred dollars from a Roanoke store two years ago.
Firemen from the Clifton Forge Fire Department contain a fire which started in an upstairs bedroom of a house at 328 Ridgeway St.

Tommy Austin, a member of the sales staff at Covington Motor Company, has been named to Master Level Membership of the 300-500 Masters Program for outstanding sales in 1985.
Dennis Lee Brisendine, son of Mr. and Mrs. David H. Brisendine of Route 3, Covington, completed degree requirements in December at Roanoke College for a bachelor of arts degree with a major in biology.
