Events scheduled in the Highlands and adjoining communities include the following:
RELAY FOR LIFE: The 16th annual Alleghany Highlands Cancer Society Relay For Life will be held Saturday beginning at 10 a. m. at the Jackson River Sport Complex on Edgemont Drive in Covington. Twenty-five teams with over 400 individuals will participate.
DOUTHAT CAR SHOW: The 14th annual Douthat Lake Run Car Show will be held Saturday and Sunday at the state park east of Clifton Forge. A barbecue rib cook-off will be held Saturday. Deadline to enter the cook-off was Monday.
NATIONAL KIDS TO PARK DAY: Douthat State Park will hold the National Kids to Park Day Saturday at the beach complex.
DEATH BY GOLF: The Mountain Valley Players will present “Death By Golf” Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Bath County High School auditorium. Tickets are $7. Friday production is 7 p. m.; Saturday, 2 p.m. and 7 p. m.; Sunday, 2 p. m.
TRIATHLON: The Alleghany Highlands Triathlon will be held Saturday beginning at 9 a. m. at the YMCA in Low Moor. The event includes a 5K run, 2 mile paddle and 13 mile bike ride. For information visit www.cliftonforgemainstreet.org/
GREENBRIER THEATRE: The Greenbrier Valley Theatre will present the musical ”Cabaret” Friday and Saturday and May 24, 25, 26, 30, 31 and June 1 and 2. The theater is located at 113 E. Washington St. in Lewisburg. For information call toll free: 1-866-888-1411.
DEPOT MUSEUM: The Alleghany Historical Society’s museum in the former C&O passenger station on Maple Avenue in Covington is open Tuesday through Friday from 12 noon to 4 p. m., and 2-4 p. m. Saturday and Sunday. There is no charge to visit the museum. For information call 965-0149.
C&O HERITAGE CENTER: The C&O Heritage Center in Clifton Forge offers exhibits daily on C&O history and has an extensive O gauge model train layout on display. The center is housed in the remodeled Smith Creek Yard Freight Depot off of Main Street. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a. m. to 4 p. m., and Sunday, 1 to 4 p. m. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for children between 3 and 12, and children 2 and under free. For information call 862-8653.
GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY: The Alleghany Highlands Genealogical Society is located in the former Jeter-Watson school building on Pine Street in Covington. The office is open for research Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a. m. to 3 p. m. The telephone number is 962-1501.
BATH COUNTY MUSEUM: The Bath County Historical Society’s museum in Warm Springs is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a. m. to 4 p. m. The museum is located on Courthouse Hill. For information call 540-839-2543.
ART CENTER: The Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center is open in Clifton Forge Monday through Saturday from 10 a. m. to 4:30 p. m. at 439 E. Ridgeway Street. For information, call 862-4447.
FARMERS MARKETS: Covington – The Covington Farmers Market on Main Street is open two days each week, Wednesday, 3-6 p. m., and Saturdays, 8 a. m. to 12 noon. Clifton Forge – The Clifton Forge Farmers Market is open each Friday from 8 a. m. to 1 p. m. It is located behind Northwest True Value Hardware Store.
