ROANOKE, Va. (VR) — Wells Fargo has announced plans to eliminate 87 positions at its Roanoke operations center, according to three Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices filed with the Virginia Department of Workforce Development and Advancement.
The layoffs will affect employees at the company’s facility at 7711 Plantation Road in Roanoke County, with separations scheduled between November 28 and December 26, 2026.
The first notice, dated September 29, identified 60 employees affected by the company’s decision to discontinue certain support operations. Those positions include 18 lead fraud and claims operations representatives, 40 senior fraud and claims operations representatives, one customer service representative and one risk analytics director.
A second notice, dated October 13, identified six additional employees, all serving as fraud and claims operations associate managers. Their employment is scheduled to end December 12.
The latest notice, filed October 27, announced another 21 layoffs within the company’s Chief Operating Office. Those positions include 16 fraud and claims operations associates, two fraud and claims operations associate managers, two customer service managers and one customer service associate manager.
The final group is scheduled to separate from the company December 26.
According to the notices, the layoffs are expected to be permanent. Affected employees are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights, which would allow them to replace other workers based on seniority.
Wells Fargo stated that the reductions are part of ongoing staffing adjustments to meet the company’s business needs.
The company is offering eligible employees severance benefits based on years of service, along with temporary access to company health plans. Career transition assistance will also be available through Lee Hecht Harrison, a third-party employment services provider.
The announced reductions involve positions within Wells Fargo’s Chief Operating Office and Corporate Risk business units.
The notices do not indicate whether additional layoffs are planned at the Roanoke County facility.
