The Shadow
ROANOKE, Va. (VR) — Alleghany Highlands residents looking for something different to do Thanksgiving morning may want to consider a trip to Roanoke for the 21st Annual Drumstick DASH.
The popular holiday event attracts thousands of runners, walkers and families while raising money for the Rescue Mission of Roanoke.
Scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 26, the event features a 5K run and family walk, with participants of all ages welcome. Strollers, costumes and four-legged companions have also become part of the tradition.
Proceeds benefit the Rescue Mission’s Dining Services, which provides more than 200,000 meals annually to men, women and children facing hunger and homelessness.
Participants can choose between the 5K run, a 5K walk or a virtual option for those unable to attend in person.
The run begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 10:30 a.m., while the walk runs from 9 to 11 a.m.
Registration is currently $37 for the run and $27.50 for the walk or virtual event. Children ages 5 and younger can participate in the walk or virtual event free of charge. Registration fees are scheduled to increase after Nov. 1.
For Alleghany Highlands families, the event offers an opportunity to get outdoors, spend time together and support a worthwhile cause close to home.
Now in its 21st year, the Drumstick DASH continues its mission under the theme, “Move Your Feet So Others Can Eat.”
