COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Casey Field will have a new football team calling it home this season as the Elkton Bears bring semi-pro football to Covington.
The Virginian Review spoke with members of the Elkton Bears organization about the team’s first season in Covington and its plans to bring semi-pro football to the area.
The Bears enter their first season under new ownership and are looking forward to making Covington their home.
The team is owned by 20-year-old Hayden Campbell and his fiancée, 18-year-old Dahaven Cline. The organization said the pair are the youngest owners in semi-pro football and have built the team from the ground up with the help of their management staff.
The management team includes Coach Ocho, head coach Chris Weeks and Sossa Wayne, who helped the Bears secure Casey Field for their home games.
The Bears opened their season last weekend against the Baltimore Rams, earning a 12-0 victory to start the season 1-0.
Team captains include Austin McDonald No. 11 (DE/TE), Adrean Howard No. 9 (WR/CB), Anthony Estrada No. 91 (OL/DL), Sidney Sandidge No. 22 (RB/OLB), Ethan Reynolds No. 2 (QB) and Campbell No. 19 (DE/DT/K).
Elkton will play its first home game at Casey Field this weekend with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m. Gates will open at 4 p.m.
The same 5 p.m. kickoff and 4 p.m. gate schedule will be used for the Bears’ home games throughout the season, with the exception of the Oct. 31 game, which will kick off at 5:30 p.m.
The Bears are looking to bring a new brand of football to Covington while giving local fans another opportunity to watch the sport at Casey Field.
The organization said it is excited about the opportunity to play in Covington and meet local fans throughout the season.
