Mrs. Jerelene (Jere) Mitchell Garcia, age 93, of Covington, died October 31, 2017, at her beloved home of nearly sixty years.  

She was the wife of the late Dr. William Richard Garcia, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1972.
Mrs. Garcia was born in Walnut Ridge, AR, the daughter of the late William Marion Mitchell and Beulah Pearce Mitchell. 

She came to this area in 1956 from Pineville, KY. 

During her working career, Mrs. Garcia was a medical receptionist and office manager for her husband’s medical practice, as well as an employee of the Social Security Administration. 

Mrs. Garcia was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. 

She was also a member of the Jackson River Garden Club, the Catholic Women’s Club, the Covington Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Red Hat Society. 

Mrs. Garcia was a worldwide traveler who visited all continents except Antarctica and enjoyed her family and life.
Mrs. Garcia is survived by one son, James Nicholas Garcia and wife, Dianne; three grandchildren, Rachael Jean Garcia Thompson and husband, Bryan, Quincey Anne Garcia Young and husband, Joshua, and Nicholas Mitchell Garcia; two great grandchildren, Penelope Anne Thompson, James Price Thompson and a baby on the way, Bryan Pearce Thompson; a brother, Warren Mitchell; many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Rita Whitlow Davis; special caregivers, Wanda Fridley and Donna Nelson.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Garcia was preceded in death by a son, William Richard “Ricky” Garcia, Jr. in 2002; a grandson, James Brennan Garcia; and two sisters, Helen Martin and Maxine Whitlow.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Tom Collins officiating. 

Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Barry Calvert, Bill Withrow, Brad Fitzgerald, Ozzie Hostetter, Rick Jessee, Ham Agner, Mike Warwick and Kevin Hanna. 

Honorary pallbearer will be Greg Dill.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home. 

A Rosary will be celebrated at 6:00 P.M. Friday evening at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Memorial Fund, 214 W. Locust Street, Covington, VA 24426 or Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Educational Foundation, 1000 Dabney Drive, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
