Cougars Fall In Opener

FOREST — Covington went on the road for their soccer season opener Tuesday and lost a 10-0 decision to Class 4 Jefferson Forest.
The game was shortened due to the eight-goal rule.
“We didn’t know we would be playing on turf,” said Cougar coach Heather Baker. “It’s a whole different ball game on turf.”
Baker gave credit to the homestanding Cavaliers.
“JF played like they’ve been playing together for years, cohesive and possessive, working the triangles,” she said.
Luke Fisher and Jadyn Davis worked in goal for Covington.
“They worked hard against a formidable team,” Baker added. “We played as well as we could against a team like that. We had to move some players around to positions they don’t normally play to strengthen our defense.
“It’s behind us now,” she continued. “So we are looking forward and will work on improving our possession game, our defensive tactics and keeping the field of play wide.”
Covington plays at Alleghany on Tuesday.
