BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech running back, Marcellous Hawkins has been named to Allstate’s 2026 AFCA Good Works Team nominee list, Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association announced Monday.
Hawkins is one of 162 student-athletes nominated for the 2026 Good Works Team, recognizing college football players who lead through community service, academics and athletics.
The 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team will be announced in September and include 22 student-athletes and one honorary head coach. One student-athlete will also be selected as team captain and receive the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy.
Hawkins played in 11 games last season for the Hokies, making nine starts. He was the Hokies’ most productive running back, rushing for 749 yards, averaging 6.3 yards per carry.
During his time in Blacksburg, Hawkins has made a positive impact in the New River Valley and surrounding region. Among his efforts, he helped spearhead a canned food drive for Micah’s Backpack, which collected nearly 2,400 cans of food to help address food insecurity in the New River Valley.
Hawkins also served as a Hokie Family Night ambassador at Margaret Beeks Elementary School, engaging with elementary school students through conversation, activities, autographs, and photos, helping create a positive and memorable experience designed to strengthen school-community connection and encourage youth engagement.
The Oklahoma City, Oklahoma product supported the Touchdowns for Turkeys initiative around the holidays and has served as an ambassador for the American Heart Association’s Heart Ball in Roanoke through an NIL partnership, supporting awareness and fundraising efforts for cardiovascular health while engaging with community stakeholders to promote the organization’s mission of fighting heart disease and stroke.
