COVINGTON, Va. (VR) –  The Lumberjacks managed just three hits Friday night as the Charlottesville Tom Sox handed the Jacks a 4-1 Valley League loss. Covington dropped to 6-15 overall and 6-10 in the South Division.

Charlottesville scored twice in the opening inning despite recording just one hit. Chase Jackson drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the game’s first run before another run crossed on a wild pitch to give the Tom Sox a 2-0 lead. Lumberjacks Nikolas Koorse settled in after the first, allowing just one hit over five innings. Koorse took the loss (0-1), surrendering two earned runs while striking out four and walking five.

Neither team scored again until the eighth inning when Covington cut the deficit in half. George Pardo Jr. doubled and later scored on a wild pitch after Frankie Clark advanced to second and Bryant Zayas moved to third, making it 2-1. The Tom Sox answered in the ninth. Dom Cafferillo led off the inning with a solo home run to left field before Luke Craddock added an RBI double later in the frame to push the lead to 4-1.

Pardo paced the Lumberjacks offensively, finishing 1-for-4 with a double and the club’s lone run scored. Clark and Jacob Levesque also collected hits as Covington totaled three for the game. Mason Reid drew a walk, while George Pardo Jr., Jacob Levesque and Reid each stole a base. Defensively, Kelven Perera and Emory Stephens combined to turn a double play.

Deundre Jones worked in relief before Devin Grazzal recorded the final two outs, striking out both batters he faced. Charlottesville finished with four runs on three hits and committed three errors, while Covington scored one run on three hits without committing an error.
