CLIFTON FORGE, VA (VR) – The Clifton Forge Police Department was dispatched to the 900 block of Girard Avenue around 10:00 pm on May 29 in reference to shots fired at a vehicle. The victim was able to leave the area safely and return to their residence. The suspect, Derrick McKinley Hatcher Jr, was detained near the scene. Officers responded to the victim’s residence and processed the vehicle. The vehicle had been struck by gunfire.
As a result of the investigation, Mr. Hatcher was charged with the following:
18.2-51 Attempted Malicious Wounding (4 Counts)
18.2-154 Shooting at or throwing missiles, etc., at train, car, vessel, etc. (1 Count)
Mr. Hatcher is currently being held at the Alleghany Regional Jail without bond.
