BLACKSBURG, Va. (VR) – Three Alleghany High School juniors were selected to participate in the Virginia Tech Honor Choir Festival, an invitation-only event held annually in Blacksburg.

Nolan Rosales, Danny Elhert and Elijah Roberts, all students under the direction of Alleghany High School choir director Ben Snedegar, were among the top 200 high school singers selected to participate.

The festival brings together high school juniors and seniors from across Virginia who are recommended by their choral directors or voice instructors and selected through an audition process.

Throughout the two-day event, students participated in rehearsals, sectional practices, vocal technique clinics and masterclasses led by Virginia Tech music faculty and guest clinicians.

“I am incredibly proud of the three students from Alleghany High School who were selected to participate in the Virginia Tech Honors Choir this year!” Snedegar said. “This was a wonderful opportunity for them to work with other talented singers, learn from an experienced director, and grow as vocalists and performers.”

The festival also provides students interested in attending Virginia Tech an opportunity to compete for admission and scholarship consideration.

The weekend concluded with a concert featuring the Honor Choir alongside Virginia Tech’s choirs at the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre in the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech.

“Each student represented our Choir program and school well, and I am proud of their willingness to take advantage of this opportunity and represent our community,” Snedegar said. “I hope this experience inspires them to continue challenging themselves and pursuing choral music wherever possible!”
