BOTETOURT COUNTY, VA (VR) – Teamwork and great communications results in another drug arrest and avoided dangerous drugs from entering Alleghany County. 

On May 14, 2026, Botetourt County Deputies received information from members of the Alleghany Highlands Drug Task Force that a vehicle carrying an unknown amount of drugs was traveling north on Rt. 220 in Botetourt County and was enroute to Alleghany County.
A traffic stop was conducted by the Botetourt County Deputy and K9 Xena was requested. A positive alert for narcotics was detected and subsequently 109 grams of Methamphetamine and 85 grams of Fentanyl was found on the person of the driver,
Shelby Montgomery, 41 of Clifton Forge was charged with Possession with intent to distribute in Botetourt County.
Sheriff Matt Ward and Sheriff Kyle Moore are proud of the ability of the two task forces to work together and continue to remove these drugs and dealers off the streets of our communities.
The Alleghany Highlands Drug Task Force is comprised of members of the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Covington Division of Police, the Craig County Sheriff’s Office, the Bath County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police.
