LEXINGTON, Va (VR) – The Covington Middle School Lady Cougars wrapped up a memorable volleyball season with an 11-3 record, capping it off with a thrilling victory over Lylburn Downing. The final scores, 26-24 and 25-21, highlighted a team that continued to grow and improve from the opening serve of the season to the final point.
Head Coach Marcie Skidmore told the Virginian Review that the season was a rewarding one. “We had a very talented group of ladies this year,” she said. “The girls showed steady improvement with each match, and I’m excited to see how they develop in the years ahead.” Skidmore also praised the leadership of several players who helped guide the team throughout the season, making her role as coach much smoother.
Tuesday night’s match against Lylburn Downing featured strong performances from several Lady Cougars. In the first match, Kinsley led the team with five serving points, followed by Emma with four, Eva with two, and Allie and Allyssa each contributing one. In match two, Abby added five serving points, Mariah three, Allie two, Eva two, and Journee one. Their combined efforts proved just enough to secure the hard-fought win.
The Lady Cougars finish the season with much to be proud of, not only in their 11-3 record but in the growth and teamwork they displayed on the court. With talent and leadership returning next season, Covington Middle volleyball looks to remain a program to watch.
