There’s no bigger stage for high school football in Alleghany this week. The scenario is simple, if Alleghany defeats Stuarts Draft, and Wilson Memorial falters against Fort Defiance, Alleghany will seize the outright lead in the district. Even if Wilson Memorial prevails, Alleghany could finish Friday night atop the district in a dead heat, an outcome that makes this homecoming contest even more dramatic.
The Cougars’ journey to this pivotal moment has been hard-fought and well-earned. Their season opener against Brookville High School was a nail-biter, with Alleghany pulling off a comeback for a 27-26 win.
